How to play

Setup

  1. One player, the seeder, fills any cell.
  2. The other player chooses: move next, or swap so the seeder moves next. A strong seed can be taken away from you, so try to make it an even one.

Your turn

Fill one empty cell. It has to:

  1. Touch a filled cell, sideways or diagonally.
  2. Not make three in a row across or down. Diagonals are fine.
  3. Not complete a solid 2×2 block.

Winning

If it's your turn and you have no legal cell, you lose. There are no draws.

Traps, if the host turns them on

Hidden: after the seed, each player secretly picks cells, away from the seed. They stay until filled. Fill your opponent's and you lose on the spot. Fill your own and it's wasted.

One-turn: after your move you may secretly set one trap. It only lasts for your opponent's next move, and you can't set one if they have fewer than 3 legal moves.

The hints

Square: a live cell you can fill now

Cross: a poisoned cell that can never be filled
